Learn about the range of services provided by community palliative care service Melbourne City Mission Palliative Care. We will also hear from a woman about her experience of using a palliative care service when her partner was dying.

Community palliative care services provide holistic care to people who’re affected by a life-limiting illness, their families and carers. Services exist in both cities and regional areas of Victoria supporting people in their own homes. A key goal of palliative care is the achievement of best quality of life for patients and their families. They provide expertise and support to allow people to make choices about and take control of their care.

Services provided by community palliative care include:

  • specialist nursing care 7 days a week
  • psychological, social and spiritual care
  • respite and practical support
  • information, equipment, medications
  • access to specialised medical review, assessment and referrals.
