More information about the presenters and sessions:
Creative activity – Trish Woodward
Trish Woodward originally trained and worked as a graphic designer in the television industry and pursued many creative projects once home with kids from costume making to children's book illustration.
When returning to the workforce Trish trained in healthcare as a career then in administration and finally to a life time dream of opening her own art studio. She has experience facilitating art and craft sessions for many community groups, adults and children with disabilities and kids parties.
During Covid Trish returned to the healthcare sector in administration at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre where, for the past year, she has also held a weekly art and craft workshop in the wellness centre.
Trish understands the importance of creativity, in any form, as part of an holistic healthcare approach so is very pleased to be part of Counterpart’s Wellbeing Day in Geelong.
Information session – Erika Kotowicz and Sarah Huntly, Oncology Rehabilitation/ Clinician Physiotherapist.
Exercise has become a focus of cancer treatment in recent years, with its practice being imbedded as a part of standard care. In this session we will talk about the benefits of exercise with a diagnosis of cancer, and how it can help manage the challenging side effects of the treatments offered. The presenters are physiotherapists from the Oncology Rehabilitation Service at Barwon Health. Erika, is the program coordinator and has over 10 years’ experience working in oncology at The Alfred, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and now Barwon Health. Sarah, is an incredibly experience clinician, working across a number of areas in her career, finding her passion in oncology. She works both at Barwon Health and has her own practice where she specialises in helping those with a diagnosis of cancer. Both Erika and Sarah look forward to spending the afternoon with you.
Gentle chair based Yoga guided by Monica, Yoga 4 Living
Monica Moore has practiced classical yoga since the 1990s in Australia and abroad. In 2017, Monica faced a challenging diagnosis of aggressive cancer and underwent treatment. Throughout this difficult time, Monica found support in yoga, walks, a spiritual mindset, and a plant-based diet. Today, Monica effectively manages some lasting effects of cancer and its treatment.
Monica has taught over 1000 classes and completed more than 800 hours of yoga teacher training under local and international mentors. Her qualifications include certification in Yoga4Cancer, an evidence-based yoga program developed by Tari Prinster in the United States. Monica currently teaches at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre and offers Yoga4Cancer, Gentle, and Hatha Yoga styles elsewhere. Her classes include movement, pranayama (breathwork), philosophy, meditation, and Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation). The Oncology Yoga and Yoga4Cancer methods Monica teaches benefit people affected by cancer in many ways including helping them build strength and flexibility, reducing fatigue from treatments, managing side effects, improving sleep quality, fostering hope and a sense of well-being.
