Targeted Therapies

This session was recorded on 28 Aug 2015

Targeted therapies are currently the focus of much research and development in the cancer field. These therapies use drugs or other substances to block the growth and spread of cancer cells by interfering with specific molecules (molecular targets) that are required for tumour development and growth. There are many different types of targeted therapies. Two examples of those most commonly used are hormone treatments and Herceptin. Shirley Wong, a Consultant Medical Oncologist working at the Western Hospital will talk about the targeted therapies currently available, how they work, their limitations and who they are useful for.
