Peer support for advanced/metastatic cancer

Peer support for advanced / metastatic cancer

Our Peer Support Volunteers have all experienced cancer and some volunteers are living with advanced/metastatic disease.

All of our volunteers will listen and give you time and space to talk through how you are feeling. Many women find this helps them to look after their wellbeing, maintain hope and manage the uncertainty of living with an advanced/metastatic cancer diagnosis.

Counterpart Peer Support Volunteers can also help you to find reliable information or direct you to services that provide practical help, medical advice or support.

Please note, we are a Victorian service and can provide peer support to women living or being treated in Victoria.

Finding your way with metastatic breast cancer

The Signpost resource was developed by researchers at Melbourne Uni, in partnership with cancer organisations and women living with metastatic breast cancer. See our Information for women with advanced/metastatic cancer page for more resources.

I would never say I’ve walked in another’s shoes, but having walked a similar path means I can offer support that others aren’t always able to.
Greta, Peer Support Volunteer
The Peer Support Volunteers understood my fears, the stress of navigating a cancer diagnosis and they are brilliant at answering questions and empathising.
Ashleen, Counterpart service user
For the first time I felt I was no longer alone. It was the first time I have sat in a room with other women with the same problems, emotions and experiences as myself.
